At Highlands Tiny Homes we are all about tiny homes! We’re a boutique, family-owned business nestled in the picturesque Southern Highlands of NSW. Founded in 2003 by Michael Duffy, we’ve been part of the tiny home journey long before it became a global phenomenon. Back in the early 2000s, tiny homes were simple – think small cabins, office spaces, or temporary accommodations built on skids and transported on tilt-tray trucks. Recognising a growing need for flexible, functional living solutions, Michael started Highlands Tiny Homes as a part-time passion, complementing his already successful building company, which had been crafting quality homes for over 40 years. Fast forward to 2010, when the “Tiny Home Movement” gained momentum, especially in the US. Inspired by this shift, we embraced the change, transitioning to building tiny homes on custom-built trailers – a practice we’re proud to continue today.
In 2016, we welcomed Michael’s eldest son, Matthew, to the team as an apprentice carpenter. This marked a new chapter for Highlands Tiny Homes as we became a full-time family-run business, focusing on crafting custom-designed tiny homes tailored to each client’s unique vision. What sets us apart? Every tiny home we create is built entirely in-house, from the trailer to the finished masterpiece, right here on our premises.
